Why model details matter for washing machine repair
Washing machines vary more than most people realise. A front-loader uses a horizontal drum, a door seal and lock, a drain pump and often a heater. A top-loader uses an agitator or impeller, a lid switch and a different drive. Washer-dryers add a drying circuit. Newer models rely on control boards and error codes; older ones use mechanical timers. The same symptom, such as "will not spin", can have very different causes depending on the design.

Finding your washer's model details
- Front-loaderOpen the door and look at the inside edge of the door frame, or at the back panel for a rating label.
- Top-loaderCheck under the lid, on the back or on the side of the cabinet.
- Washer-dryerThe label is usually on the door frame or the rear panel.
- Detergent drawer cavitySome models keep a label inside the dispenser recess.
- Manual or warranty cardIf you still have it, it lists the model and serial number.
What to send us
- The brand and model, ideally as a photo of the label.
- The type: front-loader, top-loader, washer-dryer or semi-automatic.
- The fault: leak, will not drain, will not spin, shaking, noise, will not start or error code, and at which part of the cycle.
- Any error code shown on the display.
- Its age and whether it has been moved recently or had earlier repairs.
A short video of the machine running into the fault, with the sound, is often more informative than a written description.
Warranty and repairs
If the machine is under warranty, check the terms before arranging a repair. Some manufacturers require authorised service, and a third-party repair might affect cover. We would rather you checked than risk your warranty.
